Week 3 - Thing 5

Well! Here I am creating my blog post in flickr. This has been a fun "assignment". I was able to go through the functions of the site and put together 2 sets of pictures. I also mapped one set of some pictures from a trip to Belize. I didn't explore too many of the mapped images but it seems like a great way for students to see photos of places they read about. I also liked learning about the tags since they're the key to finding things (or having your things found). This certainly has applications in library cataloging.

It took me a while to figure out how to post the Flickr photos to my blog. I discovered that one of the problems is that your photos don't show up until you've posted 5 public ones and the Overlords of Flickr have determined that you're ok to post. Once I figured that out and went ahead and posted 5, my photos showed up. I'm still not sure, though, that it wouldn't be easier to just upload the pictures from my hard drive. I'll need to experiment more to get a concept for how best to use the site.

All in all, a fun experience.

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.

Week 2 - Thing #2 7.5 Habits

Having advanced to the ripe age of 56 and having just completed my LMT credential, I'm comfortable saying that I'm a life-long learner. I've learned many things along the way... some through formal learning, some through informal and some just in the school of hard knocks.

I'd say the thing that comes easiest to me at this point is accepting responsibility for my own learning. That wouldn't have been true 30 years ago but it is now. When I realize I need information, I quickly search it out.

The hardest thing for me is beginning with the end in mind. I tend to be fairly unstructured, preferring to begin exploring to see where it takes me. It's definitely the long way around but it's certainly my natural style. I can be directed when I need to be but I have to make a conscious choice to do it.

Week 1 - Thing #1

Ok. Here I am on the blogging road. What a terrific idea this CSLA course is! Even though I consider myself fairly up-to-date on technology, it's great to have a structured plan to make sure I haven't missed anything and to have a chance to think about how to apply it in my work.

Feels good.
